Making a house a home

I LOVE our little yellow house. The first time I saw it, I knew it was our house! If you don't know the story, Trevor and I were not looking for a house. This little house was on my school's online bulletin board and it was so cute. I met a realtor at the house and fell in love. I called Trevor immediately and told him to make an appointment the next day. He did and he felt the same way. The third day, I met the realtor at the central market restaurant and signed all of the contracts to make it ours. We left on a family vacation to Big Bend the next morning. Over the phone, the realtor and I finalized everything and bought the house that week. We closed and moved in a month later! Trevor's family was coming to visit a few weeks later, so I threw as many decorations on the wall as fast as I could. It turned out very cute. Over the past year, I have wanted it to be more "homey." I sat at Carol's house (my aunt) a few weeks ago and admired the "homeyness" of her house. I came to the realization that it takes time and effort. I began obsessing over Southern Living, Better Home and Gardens, and Living Simple. I know that it is a work in progress, but at least it is now in progress:)

We ordered a canvas for our first wedding anniversary. I put small shelved up for our growing Willow Tree collection. In the entryway, I put up a shelf. I replaced the gray knobs with antique mismatched knobs. I collected different S's to put on the shelf. I haven't decided what I'm going to hang from the knobs.

I bought a simple white frame and took out the matting. I cut 35 fabric squares and put them in the frame. I drew black lines on the inside of the glass. I will write our monthly schedule with dry erase markers. (I need to get a black dry erase, I only had pastels for the picture.) In the kitchen, we hung one of our painting and I clustered some frames of wedding pictures.

I hung 3 cube shelves by the television. I haven't decided what I will put on them yet. For now, small frames will have to do. I also put a wall clock above the fridge. I put both of our paintings in one corner rather than spread out.
Like I said, this is not all! I have lots of work to do, more pictures to come.

Wine

I cannot stand beer or liquor! I'll start with that. I don't like to drink more than a glass anything because I drink for flavor rather than fun. I have always liked the idea of wine, but have never found a wine that makes me want to buy it again. The only wines that I really enjoy are Rieslings because they are so sweet. Having said all of this and helping you understand my drinking dilemma, I love a new wine! And when I say love, I mean I'd drink it and buy it often! The name is Sweet Bliss and it is pink :) It tastes like strawberries and watermelon and even white chocolate. Try it!

I didn't know that creator of these knew me and Trevor??

Pinterest

Last night, I was introduced to Pinterest! I haven't quite formed an opinion on it yet. My problem is that I have so many online hobbies. I LOVE to search Etsy for homemade things. I spend lots of time on The Nest learning about living as a newlywed. The Bump is fun to look at and learn things for our future as a family. I spend hours a week on facebook. I check twitter at least once a day. I also have many other faves like: Southern Living, Bakerella, Better Homes and Garden, The Little Yellow House, Youtube, etc. Now, I have Pinterest... Pinterest is a concept of "pinning" or saving your favorite ideas from the web on a single site. You can search Pinterest and see other members pinned items or ideas. You can search anywhere on the web and if you find something that is of interest, it can be pinned on your board. I guess that I will try it out and see if I take to it. Happy Pinning!!

One Year Anniversary

Today is Trevor and my one year anniversary! We started celebrating last night. We had an amazing dinner at Perry's. We both decided that our steaks were the best we've eaten.

Today we had a very relaxing day at home. I made cinnamon rolls for breakfast. We had a great day of relaxation with no work stress! This afternoon we ate our delicious Perry's leftovers and then headed to the outlet malls. We had so much fun walking through the decorating stores and planning future house projects. We had a romantic drive and drinks in San Marcos. We then rented a movie and headed home. I have to say that I found the perfect card for our anniversary. I don't know how I'm going to top it in years to come :)

We had been looking forward to eating the top tier of our wedding cake for a while. We were anxious and a bit scared. So many people have told us that it was going to be really gross and not to get too excited because it would for sure be a huge let down. I am so happy to say, everyone was wrong. I thawed the cake overnight and kept it in the fridge all day. I unwrapped it mid day because it was very wet. We finally got enough nerve to taste it at about 10:00 pm. It looked absolutely beautiful for having been lost in Colorado, driven across 3 states, and shoved in the back of a freezer for a year. I slowly cut it and the inside was perfect. The 7 white and pink layers looked as if they were freshly baked. Trevor and I did a count down and then fed each other a bite. We prepared for the worst... We were blown away. It was so moist and sweet. It tasted the exact same as it did the day of our wedding. I am so happy. To me, the cake is one of the most important details of a wedding. I worked really hard to find the perfect cake! I am can't believe that I get to enjoy it a year later! Tasting the cake took me back to the most perfect and love filled day of my life. Memories came back with every bite. It was more than I could have ever asked for.

With all of the details of our special day behind me, I know that all that really matters is the love in my heart. Thank you Trevor for making me the most happy and loved girl in the world. You are a dream come true. Your love has given me my fairy tale.

Cricut

Project: Dog shirt using the cricut
Pajamas: tshirt and boxers
Time: 8:00 pm

My sweet class bought me a cricut at the end of the year. They were so generous throughout the year, it blew me away. This summer, I have spent many hours getting to know my cricut. It takes lots of practice to hone the skill of paper cutting. You have to use cartridges to cut in different styles. I got lots of cartridges and paper for my birthday. I am getting good at the basics. I can make words, animals, and paper dolls. I am working on making greeting cards at the moment. It will take many many hours of trying before I get it right. Tonight I decided that I would use my cricut to cut fabric and then sew the fabric pieces on dog clothes or onesies. It was a great idea, but I guess I forgot that I am a beginner. I ironed a fabric mesh onto the designed material. I then cut the fabric using my cricut. I found that you have to do very simple and large shapes. I then ironed the flower and polka dots on a dog t-shirt. So far, it was all going as planned. I got out my sewing machine, dusted it off, and plugged it in. This is where it all went wrong... I can't sew. I can sew some dang good curtains, aprons and purses. Don't be fooled. Sewing detailed teeny tiny shapes is way different. I struggled, and struggled, and struggled. I am now sitting here watching sixteen and pregnant, eating ice cream, with no dog shirt. I guess I'll get the confidence to try again sometime. I'll stick to paper until then.

Cake Balls

Dish: Lemon Cake Balls
Website: Bakerella (I came up with the lemon cake though)
Pajamas: Brown soft shirt and teeny tiny pink boxers
Meal: Dessert
Eaters: Trevor, me, Ryan, Jill, Jane(8), Adele(5), and Vince(2)

My sweet student, Jane, invited Trevor and me to her house for dinner. Her mom told me that Jane was planning on cooking her favorite dish and she wanted me to bring my favorite dessert. It is over 100 degrees every day and I wanted to bring a light and fruity dessert. I have made cake balls one time in the past (Easter). They were a bit of a disaster. They tasted great but looked terrible. I decided that I would make these cake balls hours in advance so that if it was a royal screw up, I would have time to make a back up dessert. I bought lemon cake mix, vanilla icing, white bark, and beautiful sprinkles. I baked the cake and then crushed it with a fork. While it was still warm, I mixed in the icing. Honestly, I know this is a new trend but I have been doing this since I was 2. I think I am so ahead of my time. Anyway, back to mixing and mashing the soggy mess. I then shaped the cake/icing mixture into little balls. I forgot to get lollipop sticks so I decided to make them more like truffles. I put the balls in the fridge for about 2 hours. I then dipped them in the melted bark. I found that if you use a tall skinny mug, it works best. I then got them out with a fork, sprinkled them and put them on foil to set. They were perfect! So beautiful. The big test was serving them to the kids. When it was dessert time, the kids grabbed one of their favorite color and started chowing down. They then grabbed a second and a third. Vince tried to steal a fourth and his dad had to intervene. There were many tears involved. I take that as a compliment! Later the girls and I had another :) I would recommend cake balls for any dinner with kids. The adults seemed to like them too though!

Trev-o-meter: Too sweet!
Jane-0-meter: mmm mmm mmm mmm
